struggling with executive function today. feeling very inertia-y

most (66%) of my immediate family is the primary source of my anxiety, and it is not even close. i don't even know where to begin, because there are so many cascading layers, but i feel stuck in this rotation of being belittled, ignored, and abused. like i'm the one that everyone is free to push around and bully because i am generally chill and don't lash out in frustration. if i am really upset in a moment, i quietly take some time to feel what i am feeling, collect my thoughts and then communicate them calmly. and this seems to have made me the Safest Target, because very seldom do i ever snap back in a feeling.

lately, though, when i try to introspect and find a way to understand where any of them or all of them are coming from, i come up with bupkis. like really, i think they're just fuckin' jerks. i make friends everywhere i go and have friends everywhere i've been. i give a shit about stuff and am curious. my work colleagues and professional connections just this week made specific efforts to recognize me for my coordinating efforts and collaboration abilities on complex tasks. like part of it was the deliverable that came about, but the emphasis of the recognition was that i am easy and fun and productive to collaborate with. two different groups gave me public recognition for two entirely different projects in two days!

i blushed about it because it was so unexpected, but seems to have brought the intra-family conflict to a head because in the midst of their latest salvo i'm like, "you know what, i'm not unreasonable for standing up for myself."

also, the craziest silver lining in all this is that it's made me develop this deep respect for my step father. like i didn't really get him as a kid or even a young adult. and he has some odd mannerisms, says awkward things, but i've learned that he and i are both strong written communicators with well organized thoughts and he is always solution oriented and upbeat. truly a great person to email with questions and to lay out ideas to. the people i'm blood related to talk crappy about him like he's some kind of difficult entity that must be managed. even though it's him that financially supports the hell out of them (and has made them unrecognizable to me with their crazy vacations, luxuries, and incomprehension of year round work, paying bills, and basic financial literacy).

anyway, this is all over the place but has been therapeutic to type out. im gonna post it in case anybody else needs to hear that families are ridiculous as fuck, should not be taken seriously, and need to be replaced with kinship worker collectives or some shit that isn't quite so absurdly fraught and insular.

I went for my turn, hoping to do the awesome wand of entangle -> manacles combo, and the gob made the entangle save, which was another ~30% chance.

I had enough HP to risk disengaging. Bad idea. Gob landed another 30% hit for 10+ damage. I retreated behind the entire rest of the party.

As an added insult, my own attack, a 70% chance to hit, missed. Then on the next turn the gob completely ignored my caltrops and knocked me down with a ranged attack.

Later on in the session though I was the only person with access to radiant damage against an undead that was weak to it. That was cool.

This neighborhood has lot of elderly people, poor people, people who cant drive for various reasons, a mental care facility with varying degrees of autonomy amongst patients and some did but their own groceries and cook for themselves, a hospital and while it came in after the grocery store closed, a community college campus. Now thr nearest grocery store requires driving on a highway and while a quick drive at 100 kmph, cant be walked to. I used this not being the case as what the idea is about and he said he didnt want to live in a grocery store. He seemed to be under the impression that due to accessibility to essential goods, rent would skyrocket, like is hasn't already tripled in the last 10 years, and thst would lesd to people being essentially unable to leave, which is the situation Im already in. He also siad he's be okay with it if he could go to a farmers market outside of his 15 minute city. The famers bring their shit to the farmers market that he already can walk to in the real ass city we live in. We both live in a city, a very walkable one. Its a 5 minute city if you're anywhere near the core. Which we both live in. His mind is an enigma

I was telling some friends that I have prayed for the downfall of the American state, before, and since the Palestinian genocide ramped up in full force, and prayed even harder after Donald Trump was re-elected. Everyday, I'd wake up to new horrors: detentions, murders, threats, drone strikes, invasions, etc., every day, I'd look for signs the U.S was done. Until March 1st. When they finally bit more than they could chew, and the Iranians decided enough is enough. To feel that God has answered my prayers, to know that the end of America is near. I feel like the only person overjoyed by the news. Their world is ending, rejoice, this hell of their own making is ending. The new world is yet to be born. Whatever that means, I don't know. But as a communist, I can only rejoice where we are headed: the collapse of the world order, the liberation of the global south, the further collapse of internal legitimacy within the united states.

What I've taken from my christian faith is a deep love and devotion to the "least of these" and to be ready to suffer for my beliefs. The United States, where I live, is going to suffer. The material conditions of this war will become more and more apparent the longer this persists. Americans will regret ever tolerating Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Barack Obama, George W. Bush.
