It's dumb to think you can close 12,000 miles of borders, and even dumber to pretend freedom of movement isn't a right everyone, not just the wealth class, has.

Not wrong, more like simple minded. Open borders is a bad idea on things like security. If you think people are all nice and good and wouldn't abuse open borders, I don't know what to tell you.
You need a process for immigration that is helpful but ooen borders is dumb as fuck.

To be clear the issue isn't only the people coming not being integrated correctly but also the abuse of migrants fleeing desperate situations by people within the hosting country.
The exploitarion largely stems those migrants not being 'citizens' so do not execrise the same rights. And they cant speak up without threat of deportation. It only drives the point borders enforce exploitation.
That would be convenient for your point but at this juncture I'd recommend you look it up if you really care because I have no willingness to carry on with this discussion.

"Immigration and Customs Enforcement" doesn't really sound like border enforcement is part of their remit, more sounds like they should be making sure people DO immigrate to the US, or more realistically ensuring people follow the correct processes to immigrate.
Their predecessor, Immigration and Naturalization Services, was split up after 9/11 with the creation of Homeland Security. ICE was established as the immigration law enforcement division, and Customs and Border Patrol as another, somehow worse enforcement division. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is the department that actually handles legal immigration.

It really felt like flipping a switch similar to when I left Catholicism. Once I started questioning borders, I very quickly got to the point of being utterly baffled that people buy into the idea of borders at all.

I think it's only a question of WHEN the population decline in the developed world affects economies enough that countries offer immigrants incentives and actively recruit people to move there.
I don't advocate open borders as a final solution, but it would probably be better than what the federal government is doing today. And it would be better than letting ICE continue.

Yeah, I am sorry, but I struggle to see the real harm in abolishing borders.
And please don't say crime. Americans, that have lived there before do just as many of them as immigrants (normalized for income) and pretending otherwise would be delusional and racist.
You ever been to Europe? Lots of borders you can cross without even realizing it. It's anti-human to allow goods and services to traverse borders but not people.
But not from outside the EU. Europe in total is still smaller than the US.
If you want an accurate comparison, you have to imagine the EU as one country and the members as states, or the US as a union and the US states as countries.
If you look at it like that, the border policy is basically the same.
Those are all still separate countries though. I don't see how their size relative to the US is relevant. The countries have agreements amongst themselves that include an open border policy. There is no 'natural' reason why such agreements can't be expanded, or implemented elsewhere.

Why does size matter? What exactly changes? If every country joined the EU. What then?
Counterpoint, Europe has its own borders and you can't cross those if you're not from inside of the EU. And even that is a specific subset of EU countries.
Akin to inter-provincial/across state line travel. I think a lot of people outside of Europe just view it the same as a provincial setup.

Within the EU sure, because they're "softer" boarders because of the way it's structured. Closer to crossing state lines in the US. They don't allow free movement with non-EU nations.

The cool thing is, we have a recent of example of an EU nation going from open borders to closed borders. Remember Brexit? Remember how much of a disaster that was and continues to be?
