I'm no fan of the US police but unfortunately some people reach for a gun pretending to get their papers. So it kinda makes sense to at least be ready for the worst.
He's police, not military. He's supposed to serve the public, not treat everyone as though they are armed.

Cops are notorious pussies and scared of their own shadows. Police work is less dangerous than delivering pizzas in America but you don't see Domino's drivers strapped up with one hand on their gun when knocking on doors - yet police get away with this because in their mind everyone is a criminal out to get them, and not a member of their community that they swore to protect.
You're not wrong, but tons of pizza drivers are strapped, even when policy says they're not allowed to. Better to lose your job than lose your life.

He had someone apprehended in the back of the car at the time. He fired like 5 shots into it, and luckily the guy wasent hit.
He shouldnt be mocked, but fired and arrested for gross negligence. Im sure neither happened.
EDIT: looks like he and his partner unloaded 22 shots at his handcuffed and restrained suspect, and the acorn cop resigned. It was Florida, so of course no charges were ever filed.
On the plus side, in a decade, most of Florida will be either literally or financially underwater, because basically every property insurance agency is fleeing the state.

Part of gun safety, especially when you're firing in a populated area, is to make sure your bullet has a safe backdrop in case you miss or it penetrates fully and keeps going.
These cops fired those 22 rounds without even having a target in the foreground to consider the background of. Just "shoot and hope it hits a bad guy" without even considering what else it might have hit.
First guy hears acorn, starts firing at nothing (or the guy he just locked in the back of the cruiser). Partner sees him firing at nothing, joins in for a few rounds before stopping to wonder wtf they are even firing at.

This is correct. I went to school to be a cop but quickly saw how fucking cliquey they are and anyone who wasn't wasnt exactly like them isn't accepted (I was a dumb kid, forgive me for actually wanting to help people,) so I changed career trajectories. Thank. Fuck. Anyway, yes, thats what they tell you in school - when approaching a vehicle, press your thumb/hand whatever on the rear quarter panel in the event something happens to you, they can place you at the car to make a case against the owner/occupants.
This is so fucking stupid, they generally call into dispatch before interacting with anyone. Just goes to show deeply rooted the fear and distrust is. No wonder they abuse the shit out of people.
Wait, does this mean that any time a cop goes missing, they need to go around looking for their finger prints on random cars until they find the cop's?
Also seems easy to beat that evidence, just say "yeah, he pulled me over and it's standard procedure to leave their prints on any car they pull over".

This is what happens when you're told to expect that every encounter with the public could end in your death.

it's how they're trained (or how little rather). They're essentially told that basically every interaction could potentially result in them being attacked and to stay vigilant.
It's not that they're trained little, it's that their training encourages antisocial mentality and behavior and they're never held accountable when they hurt people or break the law

When you act super paranoid and aggressive because you are literally deathly afraid of every interaction, what happens to a public that is constantly dealing with that level of treatment?
